Admit it or not, we were all unprepared for this measure of adversity, disconnection, and uncertainty. Alienating ourselves, confining our emotions in small spaces, feeling claustrophobic and sometimes even beating ourselves up for not feeling the same level of optimism as some others do, have been some of the worst consequences of the pandemic.
Like Dr. Rostain said, “Hope is the belief if you hang in there, eventually you’ll be able to get through it. Optimism is thinking ‘it will all be fine.’” Feeling pressured to be optimistic isn’t helpful when you’re pessimistic. Instead, in those moments where you feel like your thoughts are going to a dark place, focus on having hope. Destress, listen to music, seek out to others, implement mindfulness and incorporate routines.💙
