These ceramics are made in and around Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
## ■Made in
Ishikawa
## ■Origin
It is said that the production of porcelain began when ceramic stone, a raw material for porcelain, was discovered in Kutani Village in the territory during the development of a mine. In Kutani Village, which became a production center of pottery stones, a kiln for firing porcelain was built, and the name "Kutani ware" came to be associated with the name of the place.
## ■Characteristics
The pottery is characterized by vivid colors, bold and graceful patterns, and a technique called overglaze painting. Uwategaki is a technique of painting with pigments on top of glaze and re-firing. The technique of overglaze painting, in which multiple colors are painted on top of the glaze, is a distinctive characteristic of this type of pottery. One of the charms of overglaze painting is the beauty of the heavy shine of the Japanese pigments applied in five colors (green, yellow, red, purple, and dark blue) on top of the bold and frank line drawings.
