描述
The Roveranos were an industrious and enterprising family from Genoa, Italy. This statue, which has lost an arm over the years, represents the Italian immigrants to Argentina, (distinguished by the peasant outfit that he is wearing) and possibly, specifically to Antonio Roverano, the pater familias. The immigrant is depicted stepping off a precarious boat named ***Help Yourself.*** The Roverano family is known for their popular Confitería del Gas, the first café in Buenos Aires to use electric lightbulbs, and for the small commercial lane downtown, Pasaje Roverano. This tomb in Recoleta Cemetery has been empty since 1921, when the family moved to the more modern Chacarita Cemetery.
