Orithyia’s reference is the Delphic Oracle
Ancient Greek religion encompasses the collection of beliefs, rituals, and mythology originating in ancient Greece in the form of both popular public religion and cult practices.
Most ancient Greeks recognized the twelve major Olympian gods and goddesses – Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Ares, Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis, Hephaestus, Hermes, and either Hestia or Dionysus – although philosophies such as Stoicism and some forms of Platonism used language that seems to assume a single transcendent deity.
The Delphic Oracle is an oracle at the temple of Apollo in Delphi, located at the foot of the southern slope of Mount Parnassus in Phocis. According to ancient Greek mythology, it was founded by Apollo himself on the site of his victory over the monstrous serpent Python.
The sanctuary was visited by a large number of pilgrims, and access to the oracle was very free, but the inquirers could only turn to it on certain days, while they had to undergo a number of cleansing ceremonies, make a sacrifice and pay some fee.
