描述
The "City of Blue" changes into a parallel universe after the sun sets. As night falls, the shadows get particularly intense and full of wonder. Almost everyone in the town wears fabulous outfits like this, and they float around the alleys like characters from a fantasy novel. I would walk around these streets at night and be continually amazed at the figures and shapes that would drift around through tiny corridors.
These robes are called "djellaba" and I saw so many people wearing one that I really wanted one for myself. They looked comfy and it kind of gave me a Burning Man vibe. So I went to a tailor and got a nice one. I was a bit worried that locals would think I am lame, seeing a Westerner walking around appropriating the hell out of their culture. But all my fears were for naught! As soon as I donned my new djellaba and started walking around, I had dozens of men come up to me to admire it, to touch the hemming, to feel the fabric. They didn't speak English but they would look at me with very approving looks and noises. Not a lot smiles, but a lot of very positive and knowing feedback. I did not expect any of that, but it was quite lovely.
