This is a blended film piece by artist Matt Humphrey. The image is a direct scan of a frame from a roll of film shot on an analog film Leica camera during the week of NFC Lisbon in June 2023.
The technique of blended film involves passing the roll of film through the camera from beginning to end - twice. The first time around, only the left side of the frame is exposed (with the right side of the lens covered with tape). Then the film is wound back to the beginning so that it can be shot with the right side of the frame exposed.
The result is a 'blend' of two frames - completely organic and analog. The roll of film is developed, and then each frame is then scanned to produce a digital file.
This is the first time the artist has shot such a blended roll of film focusing solely on portraits for both sides of the frame. All subjects of the portraits were attendees, speakers or artists that the artist met during the week of the conference.
