On September 15, 2022 at 6:42:42 AM UTC, the Ethereum blockchain published the final block (#15537393) using proof of work consensus, having reached the necessary TTD for the Merge transition to proof of stake consensus.
The final PoW block was mined by F2Pool and contained a single transaction (a mint of the Vanity Blocks NFT).
The Merge activated and the following block was proposed and finalized using PoS consensus, relegating Ethereum miners and Proof of Work consensus security for the world's most active smart contract blockchain to history.
