For many years I have chased around Greensboro, North Carolina trying for a shot of lightning in downtown. A new parking garage was constructed with a perfect view of the city and I was ready for the battle to get this shot. I came here at least 25 times and watched many of those storms disappear, move away or rain out over the city. It is frustrating, but I never stopped. Finally, a surprise chase started with a storm popping up to my east; one that did not seem like much at all. It was hot and the ground heating from around the city sent the shower to a supercharged thunderstorm. Earth shattering booms hit everywhere as it approached. Crouched in the "safety" of a parking garage, bolts hit within a football field's reach of me, shaking the garage as a boom, not a crack, tried to destroy my ear drums. Finally, after lots of failure, the bolt I wanted struck in view. Bucket list tab checked!
