Different shades of color help denote the amount of precipitation and the type of precipitation incoming from a storm. A lot of times they can be very bright and beautiful. This line of storms had the most vivid blue I have ever seen from a storm. As this severe warned line marched across the prairie in Texas, large gusts of wind topping 60 miles per hour (100 km/hr) kicked up dirt and blew over many weak structures in its path. The feature here is called a whale's mouth and storms like this rarely produce tornadoes. Even though they lack this feature, they are incredibly large, beautiful and powerful. The wind turbines pictured here are over 460 feet (140 meters) tall and look tiny compared to the incoming storm! This photo was taken on May 22, 2023 near Paducah, TX.
