Blue hour turned to darkness as rain curtains neared me. It was almost time to run away when a big bolt struck a couple miles away. My instinct was to duck under my car, but once I did that, I ran to my cameras to check if I go the shot. The time between the rush of adrenaline and checking your camera screen feels like a minute, but is only a second or two. The intensity of the moment mixed with the joy of catching the bolt makes lightning photography my favorite. I grew up watching tornado chasers do their thing, but lightning photography has been such a challenge with beautiful rewards. Monsoon is now my favorite time of year... until severe season rolls around again!
