With Fibrant, I have explored a concept that I refer to as "digital weaving." I have worked with threads so thin that they could barely be seen with the naked eye, so numerous that I would have been an old man before I could have finished just one piece by hand, and where each strand has been dyed in a unique shade of color. Expanding on the age-old concept of creating something beautiful with thin threads, I follow in the footsteps of fellow artisan weavers, expanding physical techniques into the digital realm.
Fibrant has 31 carefully curated palettes that give the artwork its distinct character. Often, the palette name can hint at the inspiration for that particular palette. I've also incorporated five different modes—horizontal lines, vertical lines, lines constrained to a circle, lines constrained to a rectangle, and wavy vertical lines—each adding a subtle variation to the core concept and allowing collectors to find their own favorites among the different styles.
Creating Fibrant was a journey filled with challenges and experimentation. The artwork's algorithm evolved from a simple core concept to a more complex design, and ultimately, I returned to a refined version of the initial concept after removing extraneous elements that didn't align with my vision. This process of refining and simplifying the algorithm allowed Fibrant to retain its soul while still offering a visually complex and engaging experience.
Developed using JavaScript and the p5.js framework, Fibrant is a testament to the power of technology in enhancing traditional artistic techniques. The result is a rich, vibrant digital artwork that invites viewers to immerse themselves in its intricate patterns and discover the hidden meanings within.
