In July 2019, then-U.S. President Donald Trump had a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that became a central part of his first impeachment.
During the call, Trump asked Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden, who was then a potential rival in the 2020 U.S. presidential election, and his son Hunter Biden's business dealings in Ukraine.
These events led the U.S. House of Representatives to impeach President Trump in December 2019 on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. However, the Senate acquitted him of these charges in February 2020.
Vladimir Putin’s subsequent invasion of Ukraine, in February of 2022, gave rise to this collection - which draws a parallel between the Trump call to Zelensky, and a fictional call to Zelensky by Putin.
