I was driving in New Mexico and pulled over to shoot this intense storm and try to get my Ansel Adams on. I shot maybe a handful of frames with my Hasselblad X-pan at 1/125 on film and jumped back in the car. I didn’t get the film processed for a couple weeks until I got back to New York. When I saw the images I was surprised to see that I had actually caught a bolt of lightning in one frame, which I never saw and had no idea was in the picture. The chances of catching lightning at 1/125 sec are crazy and never something you could do on purpose. This has always been a favorite image just because it’s such a lucky moment and that the lightning is right in the spot I would have put it in the composition, had I known.
This is the first time these images are available to collectors outside of a gallery setting.
