Altt a Chapuill, on the Isle of Arran in Scotland, is a burn that can change dramatically according to the amount of rainfall. After a heavy rain, the burn becomes really fierce, nearly impassable and extremely moody and photogenic.
It took me years of visits to Arran to find Allt a Chapuill in the conditions I wanted it, with the sky I wanted and the light I wanted.
Compositionally, the image is based on the water movement juxtaposed to the clouds’ movement, set to counterbalance each other for a dramatic yet balanced composition.
