Norman Rockwell’s in-depth creative process included carefully orchestrated model sessions and character studies. In these three photographs, Rockwell directs models to pose as the three characters—the Editorial Secretary, the Emerging Artist, and the Elder Artist—which were later brought to life in his autographical painting, Waiting for the Art Editor (1970).
