Tūrangawaewae, a sacred place where roots find solace. The 1300 km hike down Te Waipounamu, the South Island, was an exhilarating journey, showcasing breathtaking landscapes and awe-inspiring beauty. It challenged me physically and spiritually, prompting me to seek my own tūrangawaewae - a place of belonging. As I immersed myself in the rugged terrain, nature's raw splendour connected me to my ancestors. The forests whispered their presence, the mountains stood as guardians, and the rivers carried the wairua; spirit. Amidst this vast wilderness, I realised that my tūrangawaewae was more than a physical location; it was a profound spiritual connection to the land. Feeling humbled by the ancient history of this place, I found solace and belonging surrounded by mountains, forests, and alpine lakes. This was my place - my tūrangawaewae.
