[Chae Tongyull]
Born in Busan in 1951, studied Vietnamese in college which led to 2 years of military service in Vietnam war. After the service went to USA and started to paint in New Orleans where he founded abstract expressionist group “ Idists” and moved to NYC and actively exhibited in the East Village during the 80’s. He participated in “the East village exhibit” at Bronfman center, Montreal, Saatch & Saatch in NYC, the long Island Museum of fine arts, NY, Everson museum of arts , Syracuse, NY and numerous exhibits in NYC.
From 1993 started to study Tibetan buddist paintings which led to living and painting in Nepal, Sikkim, Ladakh and Tibet.
In Korea, he exhibited in Indang Museum, Daegu, Sun gallery, Seoul, Yeh Gallery, Seoul, Philip kang Gallery, Seoul, Park Yeo sook Gallery, Seoul and his works are in the collection of the Korean national museum of contemporary arts, Samsung Leeum Museum, Hanlim museum, Daejun and Recycling museum., Daejun.
