Artistic representation of the ancient Greek goddess Athena, the patron and protectress of various cities across Greece, particularly the city of Athens. Athena represented the disciplined, strategic side of war, in contrast to her brother Ares, the patron of violence, bloodlust, and slaughter. She only supported those fighting for a just cause and was thought to view war primarily as a means to resolve conflict.
