Annette was born to a tribe of nomadic witches who roamed the forests of medieval France. As a child, she showed great aptitude for magic and was apprenticed to the tribe's witch doctor. She learned all of the spells and potions needed to heal the sick and wounded, and also how to defend her people from evil spirits. During her apprenticeship, Annette also learned how to commune with the spirits of nature, and it was these spirits who gave her the power to defeat a great evil that threatened her people. With their help, she destroyed an evil sorcerer who had been enslaving the tribes in the area. For this great deed, she was hailed as a heroine by her people and became known far and wide as the Witch Doctor.
