The Decentralization of the Art Object 6

描述
Community Dance (MEME Cycle) is a digital reinterpretation of Henry Matisse's "Dance (1)" (1909), an iconic oil painting celebrated for its portrayal of communal unity and the power of artistic expression. As part of my collection, The Decentralization of the Art Object (DoAO), inspired by Lucy Lippard's ground breaking exploration of conceptual art in "The Dematerialization of the Art Object," I engage in the reappropriation and meme-ification of renowned artworks. Through this process, I aim to delve into their original meanings and concepts, infusing them with contemporary relevance and discourse, thereby contributing to what artist Sol Le Witt termed "the ideas chain." Matisse's original masterpiece, "Dance (1)," depicted a circle of individuals joyously dancing amidst a backdrop of vivid colours, symbolizing themes of community, unity, and interconnectedness. By breaking away from traditional representational constraints, Matisse captured the essence of movement and vitality, heralding a departure from realism toward a more liberated artistic expression. Community dance (MEME cycle) takes the original women dancing but replicates them as PEPE the meme frog, the work pays homage to meme culture and community, the dance now representing cycles within crypto, the addition of a full moon (also a symbol of cycles) paying homage to crypto investors and communities dancing the merry dance of web3, where real projects are raising less funds than MEME coins. The moon looms over the Pepe’s, is it charging the dance in a spiritual way? Or is it a dance to make the MEMEs moon? Everyone wants to reach the moon, yet it continually teases us by being in sight, yet still out of reach. Then there is the relationship with the NFT and the original painting which inspires it. Community dance (MEME cycle) is not just a MEME it is an art object in its own right. Decentralized on the blockchain, presented as a small JPG, packed with conceptual idea not just about culture and community, but also authorship, value, TRADart vs CRYPTOart, high art vs low art, satire and seriousness juxtaposed in a delicate equilibrium. This NFT sits in-between art world's, bridging the two together.
