My grandmother's (Ma'Dea's) favorite flowers were southern magnolias. When we would sit under the big magnolia tree she had in the backyard watching the chickens run by and listening to the horses bray and neigh and snort. She would always tell me stories about her life on a New Orleans plantation and how the magnolia tree brought both beauty and pain. A balance of lives lynched in front of her with the beauty of the vibrant pinks and whites that would come every year. I miss her, but I know she is near when I smell the sweet aroma of Magnolias wafting through the air. Taken on 1969 Mamiya C330 in Chicago, IL 2021- Developed+Scanned+Edited by Brittany Pierre
