Standing like a beacon of light, the trunk of this Karri tree emerges from the dark of night at the rise of the sun. Shining out a message of welcome and hope, on the edge of the forest.
I had been looking at these tree's for about a year, and just knew there was an image there, but it was hiding from me. Then, one day, as I looked at the scene yet again, to see if I could find what my gut was telling me, I saw it. It was truly a mind blowing experience.
It was early morning, cloudy and overcast, a darkish scene, but as the sun peaked out from behind the cloud, it highlighted the side of the tree, I realised it was not a panorama as I had been looking for, it was an ICM image.
I grabbed my camera gear and walked the short 200 metres to where I could capture the best scene from, hoping that the sun would play ball and recreate what I had seen.
Taking four tries to get it, the fourth image showing on the back of the camera was it! My excitement palpable, and I was fist pumping the air with joy.
Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) involves the vertical movement of the camera at a specific speed during the operation of the shutter, resulting in a blurred image that still contains detail and a story of what it is about, and what it contains.
