Stress Dream, from the Puppet Series by Stelcart, takes its cue from the depths of the subconscious, which can twist and merge images from life and fiction into a swirling and confusing mass. Stelcart’s practice comments on the female condition, so often layered with pressures of motherhood, domestic chores, career and family. In this particular piece, her characters who spin and slide, are bombarded by a rain of phones and eyes, representing the social anxiety caused by screen-time addiction. Viewers are swept into her dreamscape, which carries with it the darkly satirical undertone of a nightmare. Puppet Series by Stelcart is a humourous but darkly twisted series of compositions that capture the juggle of femininity.
