In 1955, James Dean was already a familiar face on the streets of Hollywood as he began his entertainment career. His distinctive roles of Cal Trask in East of Eden, Jim Stark in Rebel Without a Cause, and Jett Rink in Giant, would change the style of acting on the silver screen, as twenty-four year old James Dean soon became an American icon. His Star of Fame, positioned just north of Hollywood Boulevard at 1719 North Vine Street, is exactly five blocks away from where James Dean purchased both the 1955 Porsches, a 356 Super Speedster and a 550 Spyder at Competition Motors, located at 1219 North Vine Street. James Dean's Hollywood Star of Fame was unveiled on February 8, 1956, on what would have been his twenty-fifth birthday. The unveiling occurred five months after his fatal accident driving his Porsche 550 Spyder en route to a sports car race in Salinas, California.
