Lauren Bacall 1924 – 2014) was considered one of the last of the ‘golden age’ stars of Hollywood.
She began as a model at the beginning of the 1940s and within 3 years her appearance on the covers of both Vogue and Harper's Bazaar propelled her to attention of the movie industry.
With an aura of sultry seriousness about her, which lent itself well to her many appearances in film noir genre classics, the rest – as they say – is cinema history.
Best remembered for her long double billing with one-time husband Humphrey Bogart, known popularly as ‘Bogie and Bacall’, and also for starring with Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe in ‘How to Marry a Millionaire.’
Her heyday lasted three decades but she continued acting with less frequency until 2 years before her demise.
Reminiscent of the style of AL Simpson (not by intention or design), this simpler, painterly collage work harks back to my earliest pieces on Rarible of late 2020-early 2021.
Recalling inside my grandmothers’ cupboards, in a time when chocolate boxes and decorative tea tins were routinely recycled for family photo and haberdashery storage, it also reflects my love for the 1940s-1960s era of confectionery and food packaging of that time.
