This a collaborative piece between Nygilia and Beatsbyholly. The artwork reflects the beauty, innovation, experimentation, and imagination of what basketball culture brings to London. In the summer of 2019, I helped train and teach at a youth basketball camp in West London. During that time, I got to learn and understand the complexities of running a club.
There is a lack of funding overall and resources for sport compared to the USA. Not only is this piece dedicated to the energy of the players, but also to remember a young player who lost his life to a knife crime. Basketball brings hope to many voices. We must do better to protect their dreams and stay vigilant. RIP Ali.
