The urban legend is true. Bill Murray has no agent or manager, so if you want to get ahold of him to pitch a role, you have to call a mysterious 1-800 number. It’s actually an old pager number that Bill can dial to hear his messages. “It’s not like at 11 o’clock, it’s time to check the messages,” Bill said. “Sometimes I go days or weeks. Sorry, I’m busy living.” Bill does understand the need for people in the film industry to try and reach him, “Their job is, ‘Get me Bill Murray on the phone’ so I had to go the extra mile. One day I just unplugged the phone and then I got this 1-800 number, which is very handy,” Bill explained. For over a decade, there was simply no other way Bill could be reached. Even Bill’s children had to use it. “The 1-800 number is totally real,” Jackson Murray explained. “Growing up as a child, if Dad’s out of the country, you call the 1-800 number, you leave a voicemail, and he gets back to you the next business day. And you go from there.” “Hopefully, you pick up that call,” he added. “Otherwise, it’s a secondary call to the 1-800 number.”
