Inspiration arrives from all angles and this piece pulls from my childhood experiences on the baseball field. Being a natural sport, I basically ran through all the positions in search for the one that suited me best. Pitching was shortlived — though i could throw some fancy junk, opponents always managed to see what i was throwing. One pitch in particular that I learned to throw was a knuckleball, a slow ball that literally flutters like a butterfly with no spin. When you see it for the first time, it can catch you in disbelief. Here I pay tribute to that big league pitch and the strange finger position needed to throw it. Just a monolithic hand and a Wilson baseball give the piece a Philip Guston vibe.
