Tattoo “flash” sheets are collections of pre-drawn illustrations that showcase available designs to be tattooed. Gossamer's flash sheets explore the evolution of their artistic style for tattooing. Simplification and adaptation from Gossamer’s detailed pencil and ink illustrations was necessary for a design to have longevity as skin ages, and to ensure the design could be completed in a time frame reasonable for handpoke (non-machine) tattoo methods. As Gossamer's skill increased, designs became more colorful, complex, and larger in scale. This collection of air drops follows Gossamer's illustrative style as it evolved with their tattooing experience.
The Golden Age Series of flash sheets display Gossamer's first foray into professional tattooing in New York City. In 2018, Gossamer learned and practiced handpoke tattooing from their home in Pennsylvania. Gossamer began to advertise their work online with Instagram, and found potential clients in New York interested in their designs. Gossamer began to visit Brookly on weekends to work as a guest artist at a private studio in July 2019. The demand for their work quickly exceeded the time they could devote to both their full-time day job and fine art, so Gossamer made the decision to quit their day job in August and pursue their dream as a permanent resident of the studio. The leap into their new life as a full-time artist was complete with the founding of GROZEN FA LLC in early September and their first permanent residence in the city in October 2019.
Gossamer spent over a year designing and completing tattoos with black and grey ink, and began to experiment with color in late Summer 2019. Black and grey designs were recolored and adapted during this period.
