*Smokie’s Backstory*
It was a joy to live in the headquarters of Multiverse Brotherhood (MvB). The perfect society formed upon the principles of community-driven decentralized governance. Every citizen could vote on every policy, which lead to the highest levels of education possible. Every decision was made by all, and thus benefited everyone equally. You know what they say, millions of minds are better than one.
The Global Guerillas (GG) had become part of the MvB family and were working tirelessly to end to the chaos created by devolved armies filled with greed, lust, and ego. The founding of the multiverse was a massive breakthrough that provided unthinkable opportunities to all living creatures. But, every coin has two sides and with every great opportunity, great tragedies must be overcome.
The Guerillas could now move from realm to realm, explore uncharted galaxies, and discover species beyond the limits of imagination. Yet, these were the same principles their enemies had been abusing for years before them. Hoarding resources, amassing power. The Guerrillas’ advanced technology was able to monitor activity thousands of galaxies away, but the multiverse, being infinite, was impossible to traverse.
A cold night in winter, an alien object that looked like a star surrounded by a thick layer of purple noxious gas appeared in the sky, hurtling towards them, avoiding the detection of the galaxy’s most advanced tracking technology. The Multiverse Brotherhood and the Global Guerillas’ worst fears had come to pay them an impolite visit.
“Code Red! Code Red!“
The Sirens of war screamed loudly. MvB and GG prepared to defend their interplanetary headquarters from the unknown object. Unbreachable shields instantly covered the 200 Million km² of MvB territory, protecting the whole planet and its inhabitants.
Laser beams with the power of destroying whole planets and magnetic field disruptors were activated as the defender’s invisible ships took off from the base.
As the alien object hurtled towards the planet, HQ attempted to contact it without luck.
Then suddenly, it stopped dead in its tracks.
Without explanation, the alien object locked in place remained silent and unmovable for 48 hours.
Suspended in disbelief, the Global Guerillas, assigned Smokie the Multiverse Maker to find a solution. The brilliant engineer, named after his passion for smoking, set out to analyze the gas surrounding the unknown alien object to understand how the allies could eliminate the threat before it reawoke.
With an invisible drone, designed for exploration and research, Smokie attempted to collect a sample from the surrounding area but failed. The drone seemed to switch off instantly, upon approaching the mysterious cloud. It seems GG technology wasn’t that advanced as after all.
Then, using a sophisticated gas vacuum machine developed for recreational purposes, Smokie, from a huge distance, successfully managed to absorb a tiny sample of the star’s gas without having to send active machines near it.
As the analysis commenced, no one in the entire MvB realm had seen particles with such a complex molecular structure before. They sent digital fingerprints of the substance to all corners of the galaxy. None of their allies had the slightest inkling of what it could be. Half of its atoms were completely unidentifiable using existing metrics.
Right when the MvB’s leadership were starting to believe that Smokie’s experiments were a dead end, a huge portal spawned above the planet, 9 gas ridden stars creeped out of the wormholes and into MvB territory.
A telepathic message began ringing through every allied inhabitant’s head. It got louder and louder till they thought their ears would burst, that’s how they realized it wasn’t coming through their ears. The message was clear. Their planet was a hostage and the invaders demanded every last molecule of Enjinite, the multiverse’s most rare and valuable substance.
The voice demanded that the inhabitants delivered to them all the Enjinite stocked in the planet’s underground silos. If they refused, the deep, rusty, bellowing voice promised complete and ever-lasting death for their entire species. Enjinite, the most valuable ore across all galaxies, could be used to travel between realms and develop weapons that could pierce dimensions. There was no way they could hand it over to such an unspeakable, nefarious entity.
MvB’s leader sent a message to the stars.
“You want this Enjinite? Come and get it you wicked scum!”
He broadcasted a message to his people, in writing.
“Brothers, Sisters, and Allies! If we don’t defend this Enjinite, we will never again find freedom. We are the last layer that separates prosperity from chaos. Freedom or death! Stand with us today and we will celebrate with you forever!”
The stars stood dormant, but the tremendous voice got louder. If there was a battle to be fought, the enemy did not want the defenders to hear it.
Suddenly, another portal opened and billions of flying drones and warships swooped through, riddling the planet with supersonic beams and lethal lasers. Fortunately, the shield lasted for a whole day which was enough time for the Brotherhood's allies to arrive.
200 million warriors joined the fight that day. All the civilizations that the Multiverse Brotherhood, and the Global Guerillas had protected throughout the decades, without ever asking for anything in return, had come to pay their dues. Willing to risk everything to protect what had become their extended family, their brothers and sisters in arms.
The battle was ruinous, the planet was soon a graveyard of destroyed machines, drones and bodies. It was a losing battle, one that had to be won.
Meanwhile, Smokie was working hard in his laboratory, still trying to analyze the strange gas which he believed was the key to victory. With the help of the planet’s best scientists, the Order of the Pen, they unlocked the enemies’ secret. The gas wasn’t a substance, it was pure self-destructive DNA. Organic data, that was like a virus to man and machine.
Smokie ironically labeled the gas, Salvation.
Smokie was sure that if he was able to harness the power of this discovery, he could use this technology against the enemy and take the fight to them.
They sent a continuous array of stealth vacuums to the enemy stars and harvested the DNA by the tons. Smokie, alongside the Order of the Pen, developed a way to inject the deadly virus into explosive armor-piercing bullets. Within weeks, they had found a way to weaponize the gas and were ready to turn the tides of battle.
After a whole month of death and destruction, the last vestiges of civilization had been destroyed. The allies were now resorting to short bursts of Guerilla warfare to keep the enemies at bay. The enemies were scouring the planet’s ruins, in search of its stores of Enjinite.
Finally, the scientists had managed to produce enough artillery to launch a counterattack. Millions of Salvation Bullets and thousands of laser-guided Salvation Missiles were ready to be deployed. Their strategy was to destroy the enemy in one fell swoop before they could regroup and create a contingency plan.
5,000 missiles loaded with Salvation launched from underground turrets towards the purple stars. Only 579 made it to their destination.
The cumulative explosion was so fierce that witnesses across galaxies heard the sound and everyone in the solar system, whose ears remained unprotected, was deaf forever more. Anyone stuck within a range of 50,000 miles faced instant death. Luckily, the well-coordinated allies were waiting at a safe distance with noise canceling helmets.
After months of torturous rambling, the voices in their heads finally stopped.
A newfound clarity swept over the defenders, while the attackers were now the ones disorientated from lack of hearing.
Smokie’s plan worked, the purple suns were gone and it was time to clean up the rabble.
Legions of allied survivors, now armed with Salvation bullets, emerged from their bunkers and ripped apart the enemy invaders. Ships, drones, and morbid beings of pure evil fell from the sky like acid rain.
The day was won, Smokie and his passion for mysterious gasses had saved the entire planet and showed to the whole multiverse that MvB and GG are true protectors of life, love, and everything sacred.
It took years to rebuild what was destroyed during that month of battling. Lives were lost--mothers and fathers of future generations that would never have a chance to exist. The innovations that those great minds could have created, ripped from future pages of history. But they survived. They lived to defend another day, another world, and another universe.
Today, stronger than ever, the Multiverse Brotherhood are still protectors of the multiverse. Experienced and talented like never before, the Global Guerillas keep fighting alongside their beloved brothers and sisters.
That day was remembered as the cruelest and most epic battles that the Guerillas ever fought. But we must stay diligent, you never know what’s coming for you next.
The Global Guerillas need your help! Design a multiverse item that will help these elite warriors overcome the battles that will meet them beyond the future’s horizon!
