This oil painting depicts a quaint covered bridge off the beaten path in a rural area near Claremont, North Carolina. The Bunker Hill Covered Bridge was built in 1895. I love to paint old wooden structures that have been held up though time. You can smell the seasoned wood as you walk through it.
I want my paintings to give a sense of peacefulness when you look at them. Peace and joy are two things that make the soul full. I'm tempted to look for peace in relationships absent of conflict or quiet moments in nature. I think of joy that comes because things happen how I hope they will. But God's promise a peace and joy starts from the inside and works their way out. His promise that it will feel like nature itself is rejoicing with me. When I am deeply rooted in His Son, Jesus, I sense the peace and joy.
