Description
Jansword Zhu’s exquisite multipart video Transenlight displaces the viewer, pitting the organic movements of fluttering wings and melting ice formations against the rigid geometry of computer generated shapes. In this work, Zhou envisions a blueprint for the metaverse that is derived from the basic unit of human life, the human gene. The artist morphs the gene segment into a physical form through a generating algorithm. This "meta-text" of gene sequencing becomes the basis for all life in the metaverse. As viewers we are brought into the micro and macro of this alternative universe, which is at once a vision for the future and a tribute to the unseen infrastructure of our current existence. The artist intends to continue the project and create a "digital ecosystem of metatexts." Each work is titled after a specific biological proteins and viruses.
