Description

Voluminous" delves into the multifaceted nature of truth in physical objects, particularly books. By presenting an unedited grid of sequential photographs, it encapsulates the entirety of a book in a single moment, revealing more than any singular angle or image could. This found compilation, initially intended to discover the book's best perspective, instead offers a deeper reflection: the way a book is read and understood can shift over time, depending on the lens through which it’s viewed. Perspective plays a pivotal role in its appreciation, as each revisit of the book can reveal something different. "Voluminous" flattens and animates the time and space of a book’s experience, challenging conventional understanding of objects and their inherent truths. It collapses the typically unseen, time-based nature of a book into a visible, instantaneous form.

This work continues the artist’s study of typography, examining the interplay between legibility, abstraction, and the evolving experience of reading. However, this time, instead of using generative algorithms, the artist turns to the physical object and photography to explore this dynamic. By focusing on the materiality of books and their representation through sequential images, Edelman delves into how the evolving experience of reading is shaped by both the tangible and the visual. Her approach maintains the delicate balance between quiet complexity and visual clarity, now extending beyond digital processes to examine the relationship between physical form and perception.
