Description
A long exposure tracking the moon's path from the southern hemisphere, where I was born, into the northern hemisphere. A line of time and light crossing the horizon. This is the first of two exposures involved in making this piece.
In the second exposure, that large format negative of the moonrise is liquified in a tank of chemicals, reactivating the record of white light as the additive layers of color it is composed of. As liquid, this record of time and light is then extended across the frame before the negative becomes destroyed in the making of this new unique 1/1 work.
I'm fascinated by the idea of reactivating past moments in the present in order to create our stories, our history, myths and identities. It's something I think about a lot as an immigrant father in America.
