Description
The second piece of the triptych collectively titled Nothing Really Works Here.
This piece shows an orientation stage for an abroad bound Nigerian. At the bottom of the book stack is a book about the Nigerian Constitution, less helpful for the goals of the young Nigerian artist than the book on top about NFTs.
The stern look on the subject's face suggests he is serious about this: don't take away his chance for economic growth. “Don’t Touch My Bag” is a reaction to how institutional policies can quickly erode new frontiers for businesses and impede the growth of established ones. The bag here represents the pursuit of wealth and opportunity, as well as the notion of travel: is it time to leave the country behind?
The painting behind the subject is a physical work by Nigerian artist Ojo Ayotunde titled “Sheltering In Place”. The piece situates the triptych’s relevance firmly in recent history, a time of change and economic difficulties.
