Description
This work continues my exploration of the cyberpunk inspired aesthetic, influenced by glitch- and generative art, but where human input is present throughout the process.
My background is in traditional art, where in recent years I have been making abstract paintings focused on color experience. It is quite a contrast to what i´m creating with digital art, where most of my work is figurative, black and white drawings. The more i am getting involved with the cryptoart, the more i am feeling detachment from the traditional side. I felt I need to start building a bridge between these two realms, as they are both very meaningful to me. The idea is not to edit the painting with digital means, but instead to bring more of the concepts behind my paintings into the digital work. While the two ways of working are very different on the surface, there is a common core in both ways of creation. Working with and displaying the material quality is essential to each medium. I find it is something that brings natural flow and authentic connection in the process.
In digital drawing I am fascinated in simple output where you can see the human trace in the hand drawn lines, but also the digital nature of the work with visible pixels at the same time. In this work I have taken the pixel aspect a further by distorting the drawing by scaling small areas of the drawing, to produce these geometric patterns. I continue to draw and edit, repeating the process, which reminds me of the act of painting, in the way that there is certain element that is not exactly in my control, but enough so that creative choices possible during the process.
There work consist of this chaotic web of patterns of two colors; black and yellow. For me yellow represents things like attraction, wealth and happiness. But on the flip side it can also be about greed and self-centeredness, the black tends to make it harsher and emphasize the negative side, which goes well with the dystopian feel I am playing with.
