Description
Nicholas Cave AO (1957-) as a singer, composer and writer is one of Australia’s most popular and beloved international creative exports.
With his beginnings in country Warracknabeal, 4 hours out of Melbourne, Victoria, he first attended Art school in the city then led post-punk band The Birthday Party for a number of years. He became successful globally with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in the late 1990s. Cave’s dark and brooding image is most often associated with Gothic orientated ideology.
The concept for the series was originally based on the hit ballad Cave released in 1996 as a duet with Kylie Minogue, ‘Where the Wild Roses Grow’. It underlines how disparity of style can sometimes work unexpectedly well together, even creating something surprisingly new and appealing through its juxtaposition.
The ‘Creative Differences’ series was originally made to fulfil the invitation of participation in the second Future Art event. This was finally held in Sydney in May 2022 as part of the renowned Vivid Festival, after being rescheduled twice due to the COVID pandemic.
During this delay period I changed tact to become very interested in making work which was directly referential to the Crypto Art space and culture, moving on to the TRAITS series; the ‘Creative Differences’ works were not ultimately used.
