Description
In this series of portraits, I use the fascinating medium of post-photography to renew the exploration of self-image, perception, emotions and reality.
These young women exist in an uncomfortable new layer of the human experience.
Synthography enables us to repaint reality and give birth to chimeras beyond our imagination.
As AI grows close to submerging our everyday lives, I find it valuable to examine what makes us who we are, or pretend to be.
Did they come into existence when I first encountered them?
Or were they already alive in latent space?
The more people see them, the more they exist
Has latent space always existed?
Are there infinite variations of these women?
Some crying, laughing, screaming?
How many more are waiting to be seen?
Are they portraits, pixels, beings?
Ghosts in the machine?
Hyperreal like social media profiles
Alive in your mind
Your idea of a young woman
We exist in each other's eyes
Reality is a consensual hallucination
No woman is an island
Are their emotions real?
How do they make you feel?
How about an actress in a movie scene?
Emotional simulacra or natural reactions?
Artificial stimulation of the heart
Like a tearjerker song?
Are we more than what is perceived?
Have we crossed the uncanny valley?
We see what we want to see
Do you feel like you know one of them?
Maybe she looks like you
Or how you wish you looked like
