Description
This piece is dedicated to my Grandfather, José Perez. He has been restoring this 1957 Chevrolet 3100 Task Force Truck since before I was born. Some of my earliest memories are of handing tools to my Grandfather and working on this truck with him.
His biggest dream was to go to the military so that he could get an education. Due to a medical condition, he was unable to get drafted and instead worked as a migrant worker, traveling across the United States, serving our country by picking various fruits and vegetables.
Once he became a teenager, he taught himself to work on cars by taking apart the engines and putting them back together. In addition to being an incredible mechanic, my Grandfather is also artistically gifted. But because of life’s challenges, he was never able to pursue his dream of an education.
As I continue my Artist career, I am grounded in gratitude for the opportunity to continue to live as an artist. Today, I honor my Grandfather by intertwining his legacy and mine by archiving “HOODS UP” on the blockchain.
