There's something freeing about letting it all go and living in the moment; natural scenes are more vibrant, senses are heightened, and even if you're a bit groggy from staying up all night shooting stars, there's this ecstatic feeling that you still don't really need caffeine at all. This was one of those times for me. We had been living out of our van for a few months, traveling around the USA, seeing what there was to see, and we settled for a week on the southern Oregon coast. Accommodations were few and far between, but we found a rest area amenable to our style of van camping (see also: parking there and hoping nobody would tell us to move along). Incredibly, our home base was within walking distance of the gorgeous rocky coastline! A couple of evenings, we went to the water's edge and spent hours walking around in the cold waves, taking photos, setting up and dismantling tripods, generally having a great time with no worldly restraints (except for the occasional return to the van for a granola bar).
