Description
Whenever I imagine scenes from the past, whether they're of Ancient Rome or my own ancestors around the turn of the nineteenth century, my mind inevitably envisions things in black and white, or on rare occasions a muted sepia palette. Popular media has engrained those dull scenes in my imagination, largely because of the evolution of photographic and videographic media themselves. But of course, that's not how things really were.
Our vast and vibrant world has always been here! Our predecessors explored scenes as beautiful and prismatic as the ones we all enjoy today. Hot springs were dazzling pools of hues, glacial lagoons were frigid chunks of white floating in a sea of azure, and island palms were as green as they are today. Sure, the dyes and inks might have been manufactured differently and had different tones, but settlers in the Old West still had gorgeous rainbows and brilliant sunsets to feast their eyes upon!
When I think about this fact, it gives me hope for the future in a broader sense. No matter how bleak the daily news might sound, or what kind of bearish market we might find ourselves in, that colorful world will still be out there, waiting for us to take in the view.
