Description
The Palm fruit is also called Banga in Nigeria. This fruit is from the oil palm tree which is one of the most useful trees in the world.
But Banga means much more to the Niger Delta than just a very useful fruit. This fruit represents a people, a livelihood, a means of survival, an identity. The Niger Delta has a special relationship with this fruit.
It is what a lot of families have lived on for decades and even passing it on to their next generation.
This fruit is what my friend Mama Palm Oil has used to train her children who are now grown up and even married.
Now her children also have a special relationship with this fruit the same way their mum did.
It is now a part of the family and deserves to be treated specially.
