In ‘Mother Nature Bitcoin Part II’, leading Chinese digital artist Liu Jiaying—known by her pseudonym “CryptoZR”—has created an animated artwork referencing a futuristic version of Mother Nature in the metaverse. An analogy for how Bitcoin is created and the evolution of tokenomics on the blockchain, Jiaying’s humanoid character is walking towards an uncertain future with a distracted gaze. Mother Nature Bitcoin, having been the origin of the genesis story of decentralised finance, its future is no longer in her hands. Wearing a halo and tattoos with the 52 characters of a bitcoin private key, Mother Nature Bitcoin personifies the freedom of decentralised finance, as well as the consequences of losing one’s private key or seed phrase. “The private keys on the body disappear with the character,” says Jiaying. “And as an individual, if your crypto assets are lost, they disappear forever.”
