Description
This Vault contains CryptoPunk #4847, one of 10,000 NFTs launched as a fixed set of uniquely generated characters known as CryptoPunks (or ‘Punks’) on June 23, 2017 by Larva Labs studio. Punks are widely considered to have inspired the profile picture (PFP) movement within the NFT industry and would go on to inspire the ERC-721 standard that powers the majority of the most iconic digital collectibles on Ethereum.
The CryptoPunk you see in this Vault is what is called a ‘V2 CryptoPunk.’ When the CryptoPunks smart contract (V1) was initially deployed on June 9th 2017, there was a defect that enabled buyers to retrieve the ETH they used to purchase of their Punk. To resolve the issue, Larva Labs deployed a new contract (V2) and subsequently airdropped identical NFTs to the owners.
While both V1 and V2 NFTs can be traded (V1 Punks must be wrapped to fix the exploit), most of the cultural value and attention to date has grown around V2 Punks. They have since been featured in The New York Times, Christie’s of London, Art|Basel Miami, The PBS NewsHour, and more.
