Description
Survival Bias is the logical error of concentrating on entities that passed a selection process while overlooking those that did not.
I started exploring this in the context of artists as a reflection on the digital art space, and the way that there is an elevation and magnification of the artists who are considered successes. The concentration of attention on the survivors is a natural result of their success. That does not change the way it feels to try and break through and achieve your own success in the shadows of such giants though. This piece speaks a rebuttal to the concept of WAGMI and instead gives another useless phrase “ONLY WINNERS SURVIVE” As untrue as the idea that we are all going to make it, Only Winners Survive is about the dark thoughts that live within us when we feel overlooked and undervalued.
This piece is a dynamic work that contains over 65+ variants, each one is loaded randomly and in a random order. This random order is selected with weighted probability. So there is an element of chance to what you will see. This is actually a reinforcement of the theme. There are many factors that lead to success, and many that are the result of random events in conjunction with seizing opportunities.
If you look at this on a computer you can type in some cheatcodes to find secret variants. The music that was included was all created by me, and each is a reinforcement of the themes within this card. Each visual variant utilises semiotics and variation to express different sets and settings of the theme. The music controls can be accessed by pressing the little music icon next to the fullscreen icon.
