Description
**Algorithmic Sketch**
*Deco Echo* is an algorithmic sketch that explores quasi-symmetry. Unlike many of my previous long-form generative projects that combine multiple primitives to form a unified whole, *Deco Echo* uses a single generative building block, creating a surprisingly large diversity of distinct outputs. An algorithmic sketch is not inherently less valuable or artistically significant than more intricate works developed over many months. In fact, many beloved pieces from the generative art canon are based on very simple algorithms. Artistic value is not solely defined by complexity or work done but by clarity of instinct, thought, and inspiration. That said, hard work often paves the way for spontaneous moments of clarity.
**Quasi-Symmetry**
*Deco Echo* marks my first exploration of what I call quasi-symmetry, where two mirrored outputs are generated simultaneously with slight variations. These quasi-symmetric structures are layered with more chaotic elements, which may differ entirely from their neighboring components. Symmetry, with its order and balance, typically brings a calming expression to compositions, but pure symmetry can lack tension. Quasi-symmetry is an attempt to gain the best of both worlds. This duality mirrors what we often see in nature—like the blend of symmetry and asymmetry in a face or tree.
To complement the quasi-symmetry and chaotic elements, perfectly symmetric components are also incorporated, including the background, window surrounds, and gradient transforms, completing the triad of symmetric exploration.
**Compositional Components**
The outputs are composed of three elements:
1. **Perfectly Symmetric Elements:** Window cells, background, and gradient transforms.
2. **Quasi-Symmetric Elements:** Black and white structures.
3. **Chaotic Asymmetric Elements:** Base color and black details.
