Back in the beginning, in the closeness of our embrace, she looked into my eyes and said, “I’ll keep you wild and you keep me safe”. It was one of the first promises we ever made to each other. Of course, we had no way of knowing at the time- what we were offering each other would inevitably become what we'd be tested on the most. Life has a funny and almost twisted way of delivering our lessons to us. Healing isn't always pretty. Hell, it almost never is- not until you’re on the other side of it. It can really be the most excruciating and challenging thing you will ever do- and that’s just by yourself. Doing it in partnership adds a whole universe of depth and complexities to it. Some days you may find yourself questioning everything you've done. Every choice you’ve made. Every step you’ve taken. Sometimes it can break apart everything you thought you knew about yourself. If it's so challenging then, why stay? why rough it out? I can only speak for myself, of course, but all my life my most difficult and heartbreaking tests have been followed by the most transformational and heart opening moments of growth and expansion. I’ve always known this. That’s why I’ve always chosen to keep moving forward. Because in my heart of hearts I’ve always known that at the other side of the stormiest of oceans, lies a brand new world, waiting for us. A world where we can finally be- wild and safe and free.
