As a photographer that does not work with models, props, or studios, I often feel that I lose the edge when it comes to storytelling and photographs in ways that I could make a statement or express my emotions. You could say I feel envious that other artists can so freely express their emotions and ideas through their works, but I am unable. On rare occasions, I come across a scene that changes that, that looks exactly how I feel at various moments, and one that I know other artists can relate with. As an artist, it feels as though our creations are being thrown into a dark hole and quickly forgotten about as we constantly battle the algorithms of social media for views or likes. Web3 was supposed to be something that changed that, it is meant to give empowerment back to the artist; but I have found that it adds yet another factor, which is the approval of influencers. Crypto and NFTs are so narrative-driven, it is meant to be a world without gatekeepers but those with the largest followings unwittingly pick and crown artists and I have caught myself in this game where I am trying to get their attention and approval as many other artists. No more, I don't want to chase the clout, I don't want to appease the algorithms, I do not want to engage the farm. I don't want to feel invisible anymore, but I do not need the approval of anyone. All those negative feelings of throwing my art into the void. I want to forget them and continue creating art for myself. After all, I will still be doing what I am doing whether anyone sees me or not.
